TOWARDS A BETTER LIFE

Following the popular seminars on ‘Child Psychology’ the second round of seminars by Dr Gita Jahanbakhsh under the heading ‘Towards a better life’ will be held bi-weekly at the Seminar Room B035, Harrow College [Nearest station, Harrow on the Hill] from 23rd November, 2006, from 7-9 PM.

Workshop on Community Management

IRAN SCHOOL

Established in 1991 and registered with harrow Youth Voluntary Services, the main objective of Iran School is teaching Persian to Iranian, Afghani and Tajiki students residing in North West London. Located at Belmont First School, Harrow Wealdstone, the school is open to all students aged 5-16. Currently there are 135 students, 12 teachers, one football and one gymnastic coach. School is run by Mrs P. Nouroozi who is specialist in the subject with many years of experience in teaching and running schools both in Iran and England. Teachers are all qualified for teaching Persian as mother tongue or a second language and certified to work with children.

The HICA is planning a number recreational and social projects scheduled for the coming months. These will include the introduction of a women’s only social group and a children’s Karate and football club. Please contact us for details and information about these and projects.

YOUTH ADVICE CENTRE

HICA in collaboration with East African Welfare and Development Concern (EAW&DC), has launched the Youth Advice Centre to look after the need of Somali and Iranian young refugees. At present, apart from a referral point, supplementary classes and a joint football team, there is a weekly youth club in which parents are also welcomed. This project in financed by Renewal SRB.

ELDERLRY LUNCHTIME CLUB

To improve the quality of life and networking between elderly in Harrow and neighbouring boroughs, HICA has lunched an Elderly Lunchtime Club at JOLFA Restaurant, Rayners Lane, Mondays from 1-4pm.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES FOR REFUGEES

In collaboration with Harrow College, ESOL classes are held weekly on Thursdays and Fridays from10-12 am.

CHINA FLOWER MAKING

With the collaboration of Mrs Rastin a qualified teacher in the art of China Flower making and Blender, HICA runs a training class every Monday from 10-12 am.

CULTURAL EVENTS

HICA organises functions for various calendar events which are universally celebrated by Persian speaking people.  Pictures of these events are available on the gallery.

BAM EARTHQUAKE APPEAL

After a comprehensive study about various NGO’s active in Bam, the management committee decided to help the Yari Society which is engaged in the building of a Girl Training Centre in Bam. Mrs P. Nouroozi, coordinator of HICA, presented a check for 15,000,000 (fifteen million) Tumans towards the above project.
